How it works

It seems that every Christmas when we visit my family there is a marathon of the show "How It Works" on the Science channel. My whole family love this show, I guess it's because it's how we think, "I wonder how that works?" It's what I believe is an integral part of the self discovery process. It's really a delicate balance of "what do I think/feel" and "why do I feel it". These two questions sound so simple, but asking them without also beating yourself up or hiding from the truth are the tricky parts.

Some tips: first, don't ask this about yourself, or anyone else while you are in the throws of holiday celebrating with your family. The best time is when you are alone and can meditate or just sit quietly and reflect. It may be the best gift you can give yourself this holiday season.

Second, remember that people's reaction to you and the things they do says way more about how they feel about themselves than it does about how they feel about you. However, this is true about you as well. So when you find yourself being short and impatient with others, realize that it is due to some annoyance you feel for yourself in those moments. During those times be gentle with your own heart, it's trying to tell you something.

Third, never give up on self discovery. You are the greatest mystery you will ever solve. You may take a break from daily examination because it can be exhausting and can sometimes keep you from truly enjoying your life, but always come back to it, you are worth it.

Happy Solstice everyone!
